Substance Abuse Counselor

Shelby County Community Services Substance Abuse agency is seeking a part-time substance abuse counselor. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of the disease process of addiction, understand various therapeutic approaches, evidence based interventions and work collaboratively with clinicians or organization coordinate client needs.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate group counseling sessions/individual counseling sessions
  • Collect urine screens for drug testing
  • Assess, diagnose and develop individual treatment plans for clients
  • Schedule appointments
  • Answer telephone
  • Complete client documentation
  • Coordinate client referrals as needed
  • Participate in case staffing's with various community organizations
  • Any additional task as set forth by the Program Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher in Social/Behavioral Sciences
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written skills
  • Solid time management and organizational skills
  • CADC preferred but not required
  • Work independently
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Valid driver's license
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Experience in the substance abuse field preferred
